The Senate has unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio, reaffirming their loyalty to his leadership. This move follows reports on social media alleging that some northern senators were plotting to impeach Akpabio.
During Thursday’s plenary, former Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, raised a point of order, addressing the claims that northern senators were behind the impeachment plot. He described the allegation as a breach of his constitutional rights as a citizen and representative of Kebbi North, adding that the unfounded reports had damaged his reputation and integrity.
Senator Abdullahi further stated that after consulting with his colleagues from the north, they collectively expressed shock and disbelief over the claims, emphasizing that no such plan existed.
In response, senators from various sections of the chamber passed a unanimous vote of confidence on the entire leadership of the 10th Senate, voicing their support.
Senate President Akpabio, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the backing of his colleagues and reassured them of his commitment to providing effective leadership.
