Senate President Charges Committee to Unravel Rot in Petroleum Sector

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has inaugurated an Ad-Hoc Committee of the Red Chambers with a mandate to thoroughly investigate and uncover the root causes and perpetrators of economic sabotage activities in the petroleum sector.

Senator Akpabio tasked members of the Committee, led by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, to leave no stone unturned in identifying those responsible for the criminal acts, their methods, and networks, in order to reverse the nation’s economic downturn.

The Senate President lamented revenue losses resulting from the illegal activities of economic saboteurs, which have deprived the country of funds for development.

He emphasized that if left unchecked, these activities could cripple the economy and hinder the country’s progress.

The Senate President also charged Members of the Committee to utilize their findings to propose robust and sustainable solutions to prevent future occurrences of economic sabotage in the petroleum sector.

Chairman of the Committee and Senate Leader, Senator Bamidele, assured that the Committee would approach its work with professionalism, integrity, balance, commitment, and impartiality.

He pledged that the committee would work diligently to accomplish its assignment within the given timeframe, in order to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The Senate Ad-Hoc Committee is tasked with investigating alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum sector.
