SENATE ADJOURNS PLENARY UNTIL NOVEMBER 19 FOR OVERSIGHT DUTIES

Date:

The Nigerian Senate adjourned its plenary sessions on Thursday, setting a return date for November 19, 2024.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the recess, explaining that it will allow relevant committees to conduct oversight on ongoing projects, assessing the progress and impact of the 2024 capital budget.

Senator Akpabio emphasized that the oversight exercise fulfills the National Assembly’s constitutional duty to the Nigerian people and called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to support this effort for a successful review.

In addition, lawmakers are preparing to review the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP), which underpin the budgetary framework.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to soon present the 2025 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly.
