President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for peace and decorum from all stakeholders ahead of the Edo State governorship election set for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
In a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu urged governorship candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and the will of the people.
“President Tinubu believes in the voters’ ability to make informed decisions about their future leaders. He emphasizes that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules,” the statement read.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in ensuring a free and fair election, and he called on all stakeholders to support a peaceful and successful process.
The president commended the candidates for focusing their campaigns on key issues such as improving livelihoods, economic growth, and national development, urging Edo State residents to remain peaceful and respectful throughout the election period.
He further expressed confidence in the professionalism and impartiality of security agencies and INEC officials, urging them to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
