PRESIDENT TINUBU CONFERS GCON ON INDIAN PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honor of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during bilateral talks held in Nigeria.

President Tinubu described the gesture as a symbol of Nigeria’s appreciation for India’s partnership and decades-long cooperation. He expressed optimism for strengthened collaboration across various sectors, emphasizing shared aspirations between Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and India’s Develop India 2047 vision.

In his acceptance speech, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the honor to India’s 1.4 billion citizens and hailed the deep friendship between both nations. Modi highlighted areas of mutual interest such as defense, counter-terrorism, and economic development, emphasizing the importance of fostering ties to benefit their people and the African continent.

The visit also saw the signed Memoranda of Understanding exchange on cultural exchange, customs cooperation, and surveying collaboration. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi announced the dispatch of 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid to support Nigeria’s flood relief efforts, further showcasing India’s solidarity.
