Date:

In a move to bolster Nigeria’s education sector, President Bola Tinubu has announced key appointments to the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). These appointments aim to enhance leadership and drive reforms in technical education and basic education delivery across the country.

Dr. Mohammed Aminu Appointed NABTEB Registrar

Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Aminu has been appointed as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB. A seasoned professional with a Ph.D. in Automobile Technology and a Master’s degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Dr. Aminu brings 28 years of experience in teaching, administration, research, and policy development to his new role.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Aminu served as the Director of Procurement at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). A strong advocate for vocational education and skills development, he has authored numerous publications and presented research on innovative teaching methods, youth empowerment, and poverty alleviation. He is also a member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and the Automotive and Locomotive Engineers Institute.

President Tinubu charged Dr. Aminu to leverage his expertise to provide transformational leadership at NABTEB, ensuring the agency continues to assess and certify skilled human resources critical to Nigeria’s industrial growth.

New UBEC Leadership Team Unveiled

President Tinubu also appointed Mr. Idris Olorunnimbe as the Chairman of the UBEC Board. Mr. Olorunnimbe is a visionary leader with a proven track record in youth empowerment and education. As the Group CEO of The Temple Company, which he founded in 2016, he has led transformative initiatives across education, entertainment, and sports. He previously served on the Board of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committees, driving impactful youth employment and entrepreneurship programs.

Joining the UBEC leadership team are Rasaq Olajuwon, appointed as Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), and Tunde Ajibulu, named Deputy Executive Secretary (Services). Mr. Olajuwon, from the South West, was previously the Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA). Mr. Ajibulu, from the North Central, is a Fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and brings extensive experience as a Director at Tangent Construction Nigeria Limited and Partner at Covenant Consultancy Services.

These appointments follow the earlier selection of Aisha Garba from the North West as UBEC’s Executive Secretary in December 2023. President Tinubu urged the new appointees to strengthen the human capital needed to drive educational reforms and improve service delivery at UBEC, ensuring greater access to quality basic education nationwide.

A Vision for Educational Excellence

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of these appointments in advancing Nigeria’s educational goals. He called on the new leaders to prioritize innovation, accountability, and inclusivity in their roles, ensuring that Nigeria’s education system meets global standards and equips citizens with the skills needed for national development.
