Francisco Conceicao secured a dramatic late victory for Portugal as they rallied from a goal down to defeat Czech Republic two -one in their Euro 2024 opener on Tuesday night.
Portugal dominated possession throughout the match, with Czech Republic largely defending deep in their own half.
The deadlock was broken in the second half when Lukas Provod unleashed a powerful shot that nestled into the far corner, stunning Portugal.
However, Czech hopes were short-lived as goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek redirected Nuno Mendes’ header into his own net off Robin Hranac, leveling the score.
Despite a disallowed goal for offside against Diogo Jota in the closing stages, Portugal found their winner deep into stoppage time when Conceicao struck.
In other matches on Tuesday, Turkey secured a three-one victory over Georgia.
Today’s fixtures include Croatia versus Albania, hosts Germany against Hungary, and Scotland facing Switzerland.
