Two Security Operatives have lost their lives following the Local Government (LG) Crisis rocking Rivers State.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olàtunji Disu in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, ASP Grace Iringe Koko said to forestall more bloodshed and prevent a further breakdown of law and order, the Police have taken over all the 23 Council Secretariats and some critical government infrastructure in the state as conventional police officers and anti-riot police officers have been deployed to these facilities.
While urging all groups and individuals to be law-abiding, the Commissioner of Police also warned anyone who intends to cause mayhem as the command will not hesitate to impose the full weight of the law on them.
CP Disu urged law-abiding residents and visitors in the State to go about their lawful businesses without fear as the command is resolved to carry out its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.
It could be recalled that Several Council Secretariats across Rivers State were under lock and key following expiration of council chairmen tenure. Barricades were replicated across 23 Local Government Areas in the State.
Also, Council Chairmen had previously threatened not to vacate their offices despite constitutional tenure end.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Cp Tunji Disu, has assured residents that police force will maintain law and order during Transitions at various Local Government Councils.
