Police Detain Portable Over Alleged ‘G-Wagon Debt’

Date:

The Lagos State Police Command has detained popular street singer Habeeb Okikiola, best known as Portable for allegedly refusing to settle a debt he incurred when he purchased a G-Wagon from a car dealer.

According to the Police Spokesperson in the State, Benjamin Hundeyin, the singer was arrested on Tuesday, in the Abule Egba region of Lagos.

“Yes, Portable has been arrested. He purchased a G-Wagon for N27 million, paid N13 million, and failed to fulfill the remainder, claiming issues with the vehicle. We apprehended him today,” confirmed Hundeyin.

The artist, known for the Zazoo Zeh track, purportedly acquired a vehicle valued at ₦27 million but only settled ₦13 million of the debt, and subsequently declined to fulfill the remaining N14 million obligations.

Reportedly, Portable repeatedly evaded requests from the car dealer to settle the outstanding balance, citing alleged defects in the vehicle as justification. Following unsuccessful attempts to secure payment, the car dealer lodged a complaint with the police, prompting law enforcement officers to take Portable into custody.

In a widely circulated video, Portable was observed scaling a gate when approached by police bearing an arrest warrant. Another video depicted him being forcibly restrained, handcuffed, and transported by around four officers to a waiting vehicle.
