Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on organized labor unions to explore alternative avenues for addressing their concerns rather than resorting to strikes and protests.
During a condolence visit by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to his residence in Nsit Ubium, the governor reassured workers of his administration’s dedication to their welfare. He highlighted achievements such as the approval of a 13th-month salary for workers.
In addressing the proposed December 1 nationwide strike over the new minimum wage, Pastor Eno urged cooperation between labor unions and the government. He reiterated that payments would commence following the verification process to ensure transparency.
The NLC Akwa Ibom State Chairman, Comrade Sunny James, commended the governor’s efforts and paid tribute to the late First Lady, describing her as a compassionate advocate for workers’ welfare.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Niger Delta Development Commission and other corporate bodies lauded Governor Eno’s developmental strides and pledged support for ongoing projects in the region.
