Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge will be opened to traffic before the Yuletide.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance during an unscheduled inspection of ongoing work on the bridge on Sunday.
He says the delay in opening the bridge was caused by the installation of an additional 25-metre steel monument designed to reflect the cane market heritage of the area.
According to the governor, the monument is about 80 per cent complete, with three of its four components already installed.
Sanwo-Olu says the monument was not part of the original bridge design, adding that the remaining work would take a few more days to complete.
He stressed that the structure must be safely installed before the bridge can be opened to motorists.
The governor apologised for the delay, noting that the bridge was initially scheduled to open at the end of September.
He says the completed project will improve connectivity in Lagos and provide a new landmark for recreation and tourism.
