ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to account for the ₦10 billion reportedly approved for Ebola emergency preparedness.
Atiku’s Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, made the demand following the confirmation of an Ebola case in Abuja.
The former Vice President questioned claims by the All Progressives Congress that the funds remained untouched, demanding documentary evidence showing whether the money was released and where it is being held.
Atiku’s camp recalled that the Presidency announced in June that President Tinubu had ordered the immediate release of ₦10 billion for Ebola emergency preparedness.
It called on the government to publish relevant release documents, account records and expenditure reports to clarify the status of the funds.
The ADC Presidential Campaign Council also questioned the timeline of the government’s response to the confirmed Ebola case, demanding details of when the infection was first suspected, when health authorities were alerted and when testing and contact tracing began.
It further called for adequate protection, equipment and resources for health workers treating the patient and monitoring identified contacts.
Atiku’s camp also warned against using public health restrictions for political purposes, insisting that any measures introduced must be based on clear medical advice.
It urged the Federal Government and the APC to resolve the apparent contradiction over the ₦10 billion fund and provide Nigerians with details of the government’s Ebola preparedness and response.
