Rivers United extended their unbeaten streak in this season’s Nigeria Premier Football League to seven games after defeating Shooting Stars two-zero in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
The team secured their first goal in the 51st minute, with Aniekeme Okon finding the net. Ndifreke Effiong then doubled their lead 14 minutes later.
With this victory, Coach Finidi George’s side climbed to the top of the league with 17 points, two points ahead of Remo Stars, who lost three-one to Plateau United in Jos.
Other notable results from the league on Thursday included Akwa United’s one-nil defeat to Katsina United, Heartland’s one-one draw with Ikorodu City, and Bendel Insurance’s impressive three-zero win over Bayelsa United.
