Nigeria’s Beach Soccer team, the Supersand Eagles, are scheduled to host Mauritania for the second leg of their 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Murtala Muhammed Square in Kaduna on 27th July.
Nigeria Football Federation confirmed this development, noting that the team will return to Nigeria from Mauritania on Tuesday.
Following a thrilling five-four victory in Nouakchott last Saturday, Nigeria currently holds a first-leg advantage. The winner over two legs will secure qualification for the 2024 Beach Soccer AFCON in Egypt.
In their first international appearance in five years, Coach Isa Abdullahi’s team staged comebacks twice to clinch victory in a gripping encounter against their hosts.
The Supersand Eagles have a decorated history in beach soccer, having claimed the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations title in 2007 and 2009, alongside winning silver and bronze medals at various editions.
They have also represented Africa numerous times at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, reaching the quarterfinals in Ravenna, Italy, in 2011, before narrowly losing to Brazil in overtime.
Following their disappointing performance at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay in 2019, the NFF temporarily withdrew the team from international competitions.
