The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has seized 709.979kg of various illicit substances in October 2024.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, ASN Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the operation led to the arrest of 129 male suspects.
State Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, revealed that the confiscated substances included 309.991kg of cannabis sativa, 394.835kg of psychotropic substances, along with 741,600 tablets of Tramadol, 2.789kg of pregabalin, and traces of methamphetamine.
During the period, the command secured 22 convictions, which Idris-Ahmad noted serve as a strong deterrent against drug-related crimes.
“Suspects have been profiled, with those eligible for prosecution charged to court, while others were referred to the counseling unit for support and rehabilitation,” he said.
The commander lauded the NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Marwa (Rtd), for his ongoing support, as well as the Kano State Government and stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in combating drug abuse.
He urged the public to contribute to the fight against drug trafficking by reporting suspicious activities via the agency’s hotline: “0800 1020 3040.”
“Together, we can build a safer and healthier society,” Idris-Ahmad added.
