MINISTRY TAKES SWIFT ACTION ON RECENT INCIDENTS AT FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLEGE, ENUGU

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s strong commitment to ensuring a secure and conducive environment in federal schools nationwide, assuring the public that necessary steps are underway to restore peace and ensure the safety of students at Federal Government College, Enugu.

The Ministry responded to recent reports of a bullying incident involving the gang assault of an SS1 student by a group of students on November 7, 2024. Following the circulation of a disturbing video of the incident on social media, the Federal Ministry of Education swiftly established a disciplinary committee. All 13 students involved are currently on a six-week suspension, pending a final report from the committee.

To further investigate, the Ministry directed the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) to collaborate with security agencies, including exploring potential affiliations with external groups. Immediate steps are being taken to enhance security at the College by involving law enforcement and reviewing safety protocols.

Additionally, counseling and rehabilitation services will be provided to foster a positive environment for affected students. Dr. Alausa called on all stakeholders, including parents, school officials, and security agencies, to work collectively to maintain a safe and supportive student atmosphere.
