HOUSE COMMITTEE COMMENDS NIDCOM’S ACHIEVEMENTS, PROMISES MORE SUPPORT

The House Committee on Diaspora Affairs has commended the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for its impactful initiatives since its establishment five years ago. During an oversight visit to NiDCOM headquarters in Abuja, Committee Chairman Hon. Tochukwu Chinedu Okere acknowledged the leadership of NiDCOM’s Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, highlighting her role in strengthening Nigeria’s ties with its diaspora communities.

Hon. Okere emphasized the committee’s commitment to securing a permanent office for NiDCOM to bolster its operations while encouraging the agency to continue recognizing Nigerians contributing positively globally.

Hon. Dabiri-Erewa briefed the committee on NiDCOM’s notable projects, including the National Diaspora Policy, the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), and the Diaspora Data Mapping Portal, which tracks approximately 20 million Nigerians living abroad.

She also pointed to the substantial impact of diaspora remittances, which have generated $90 billion for Nigeria over the past five years, emphasizing the potential of engaging Nigerians abroad for national development.

The committee pledged to support NiDCOM’s growth, promising legislative backing to enhance its capacity as a prominent agency in Nigeria.
