The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has inaugurated a planning committee for the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival, scheduled to hold from 1st to 9th April 2025 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Mr. Alabo Boma Iyaye, NDDC Executive Director of Finance and Administration and Chairman of the Planning Committee, assured that the festival would run smoothly. He emphasized the committee’s crucial role in ensuring the event’s success and highlighted the region’s proud history of producing exceptional athletes.
Project Consultant and Co-Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Itiako Ikpokpo, noted that the sports community is thrilled with the NDDC’s flagship sports program. He stated that other regions are likely to follow suit, as the NDDC is setting a high standard for sports development.
Bayelsa State Commissioner of Sports, Hon. Daniel Igali, commended the NDDC for the initiative, stating that it would elevate sports to an unprecedented level and reduce criminal activities in the region by engaging youths positively.
The festival, part of the NDDC’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, aims to foster unity, nurture grassroots talent, and create opportunities for young athletes to compete at both national and international levels.
