Zelensky Willing to Step Down for Peace and NATO Membership Amid Escalating Conflict

Date:

As Ukraine approaches the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his willingness to step down from the presidency if it would guarantee peace and secure Ukraine’s NATO membership.

Speaking in a recent interview, Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine’s security remains his top priority. His comments follow criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who labeled him a dictator without elections. Zelensky dismissed the remark, clarifying that martial law, in place since 2022, has legally suspended elections.

Meanwhile, Russia has launched its largest drone attack on Ukraine, deploying 267 drones across 13 regions. Although Ukrainian air defense intercepted most of them, the attack resulted in significant destruction and civilian casualties. First Lady Olena Zelenska described the night as one of “death and destruction.”

Diplomatic tensions have also escalated, as U.S. and Russian officials met in Saudi Arabia without Ukraine’s participation, raising concerns about Ukraine’s role in shaping its future peace negotiations.
