Nationwide Blackout in Nigeria as Labour Union Shuts Down National Grid

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the Labour Union shut down the National Grid, causing a Nationwide blackout at around 2:19 am on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.

The shutdown followed an incident at 1:15 am where operators at the Benin Transmission Control Center were expelled and some staff injured, leaving the center inoperative.

Other transmission substations affected by the Labour Union’s action include Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba, and Osogbo Transmission substations.

However, the Transmission Company of Nigeria is working to stabilize the grid and restore normal Electricity Transmission Nationwide.
