The Organized Labour in Akwa Ibom State today joined their national body to demand an increase in the minimum wage for workers to meet the current cost of living in the country.
Members of the Organized Labour were led by the Akwa Ibom State Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to various locations in the state to enforce compliance with the nationwide strike.
Addressing the striking workers at the State Secretariat Gate, NLC State Chairman, Comrade Sunny James noted that workers are no longer comfortable with their pay.
Comrade James further appealed that the Government revert to the Old Electricity Tariff emphasising that its current price is a burden to Nigerians.
On his part, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Dominic Abang noted that although negotiations are ongoing, the unions are hoping for positive feedback between the Federal Government and the National Labour Leaders.
The strike comes amidst the National Assembly‘s intervention meeting with the labour leaders yesterday in a bid to save the nationwide strike.
