Flooding Claims a Life in Uyo’s Pius Okon Street Incident

Date:

At least one person has died following the flooding of Pius Okon Street off Sylvanus Okon in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State as a result of an overnight downpour that submerged houses and properties.

ADBN Correspondent David Isong who visited the area cited houses erected below the road level making it impossible for water to flow out.

Some residents who made it out alive when the rain started were seen salvaging some items that were severely soaked as a result of the heavy rains.

Residents however called on the State Government to extend the intervention work to aid curb the incessant flood cases in the community.

It would be recalled that the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, in the 2024 Annual Flood Outlook for the country had listed Akwa Ibom as one of the high flood-risk states.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno in April 2024, activated the emergency Management Protocol to address the 2024 annual flood outlook and checkmate areas prone to flood.
