MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SENATE COMMITTEE UNITE FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION REFORMS

Date:

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, hosted the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse, for a significant oversight visit aimed at bolstering initiatives across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. Focused on addressing challenges from curriculum improvements to infrastructure funding, the session reaffirms the Ministry’s alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for education.

Dr. Alausa highlighted the commitment to STEM as a cornerstone for a skilled workforce vital to Nigeria’s economic advancement. He responded to questions on resource allocation, noting that while 137 schools have received basic infrastructure and teachers, further funding is needed to optimize operations fully. Dr. Alausa also emphasized that the National Policy on Education, last updated in 2013, remains a guiding framework.

Senator Dandutse underscored the importance of collaboration, advocating for global partnerships and addressing financial constraints, like high electricity costs, that universities face. He urged a sustainable power strategy to support uninterrupted learning environments.
