The Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned 24 suspects before a Magistrate Court sitting at NDA Junction, Kaduna, over the brutal mob killing of a woman in the Maraban Jos area of the state.
According to the police, the suspects are facing charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, mischief, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.
The arraignment follows a comprehensive investigation into the incident which occurred on June 21, 2026, when the victim was allegedly attacked and killed by a violent mob after being removed from police custody.
During the court proceedings, the case was mentioned and subsequently adjourned until July 21, 2026, for further hearing. The court also ordered that all 24 suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.
The Kaduna State Police Command strongly condemned the act of mob justice, warning that individuals who take the law into their own hands will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Police authorities further disclosed that more than 100 additional suspects are currently under investigation for their alleged involvement in the incident. Those found culpable will also be charged to court.
Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, assured residents that the Command remains committed to securing justice for the victim and maintaining law and order across the state. He also urged members of the public to report grievances and criminal allegations through lawful channels rather than resorting to violence.
