Dutch manager signs two-year deal to succeed Xabi Alonso
German Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen have confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new head coach, signing a contract that runs until June 2027.
The club made the announcement on Monday via its official X handle, posting:
“Let’s get started! Erik ten Hag signs with Bayer 04 as our new head coach until 2027!”
Ten Hag, 54, replaces Xabi Alonso, who led Leverkusen to domestic success before departing for a new challenge. The Dutch tactician had been widely tipped as the frontrunner to take over the position.
The appointment marks a new chapter for Leverkusen, who are aiming to build on their recent resurgence and compete more consistently at both domestic and European levels.
The two-year deal extends through the 2026/27 season.
