Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the South-South region.
Speaking at a press conference in Uyo on Friday, the governor said his decision followed extensive consultations and was made to align more closely with the economic reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
“Having completed the rounds of my consultations as your servant, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Eno announced.
“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness; we are joining the APC from a position of strength,” he added.
Governor Eno’s move comes just six weeks after Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also defected from the PDP to the APC, suggesting a possible political realignment ahead of future elections.
