As Muslims across Nigeria mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and several state governors have used the occasion to urge Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, unity, and hope amid ongoing national challenges.
In separate goodwill messages, the leaders encouraged reflection on the values of devotion, selflessness, and compassion—core elements of the Eid-el-Kabir festival, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to God’s command to sacrifice his son.
‘Toughest Days Are Behind Us’ — Tinubu
President Tinubu described the season as one for gratitude to God and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to economic recovery.
“Though the journey has not been easy and some doubted our direction, the resilience of public and private sector leaders, along with the steadfast support of most Nigerians, is yielding results,” he said. “The toughest days are behind us. We are entering a new era of renewed hope and prosperity.”
He also called for prayers for front-line security officers and urged Nigerians to remain united and hopeful.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu encouraged Muslims to extend compassion to the less privileged, adding, “This is a time to show kindness and generosity.”
Senate Urges Patience, Peace
Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized the importance of faith, national unity, and peace, calling on Nigerians to remain resilient.
“Let us use this occasion to promote interfaith harmony, national unity, and development,” he said.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin echoed similar sentiments, urging continued prayers and support for government efforts.
Governors Highlight Prayer, Stability
Across the states, governors used the opportunity to reflect on the importance of prayer and peaceful coexistence:
- Borno Governor Babagana Zulum reiterated support for frontline troops and ongoing security efforts, stating, “Prayer is the key to our success.”
- Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris called for mending broken relationships and community unity.
- Kaduna Governor Uba Sani encouraged residents to intercede for the nation’s leaders.
- Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo advised responsible celebrations and highlighted the values of generosity and peaceful coexistence.
- Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun reminded citizens to support those in need and foster unity.
- Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq called on Nigerians to reject divisive tendencies and support national development.
- Suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara urged reflection and assured residents of ongoing efforts to restore stability and economic growth in the state.
- Katsina Governor Dikko Radda prayed for abundant rain and a rich harvest, emphasizing agriculture’s role in the state’s economy.
- Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde thanked Muslims for their contributions and emphasized public vigilance during the celebrations.
