ISRAEL KILLS TOP HEZBOLLAH FIGURE IN BEIRUT STRIKE

Date:

Israel carried out an airstrike today, targeting and killing a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in southern Beirut. Security sources in Lebanon confirmed that Ibrahim Aqil, Hezbollah’s operations commander and a key figure in the group’s military leadership, was the primary target. This escalation adds to the already tense relations between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah, fueling concerns about further retaliatory actions and heightened violence in the region.

The Lebanese health ministry reported that eight people have lost their lives in southern Beirut due to the ongoing conflict, with 59 others injured, eight of whom are in critical condition. Hospitals in the area are struggling to treat the influx of wounded, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

In response to rising security concerns, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has shortened his U.S. trip by one day. He is set to leave on Wednesday for a four-day visit, where he will address the UN General Assembly on Friday.

In Ghana, anticipation is building as the electoral commission confirmed 13 candidates for the upcoming presidential election. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama are expected to face a close contest, with voters heading to the polls on December 7, following President Nana Akufo-Addo’s completion of his second term.

In South Africa, scientists are investigating an unusual outbreak of rabies among Cape fur seals. At least 24 seals have either died or been euthanized after testing positive for the virus. This outbreak marks the first recorded instance of rabies spreading among sea mammals, a development that could pose serious risks to humans.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., the race for the presidency is tightening. Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are locked in a statistical tie, each with 47% of likely voter support, as less than seven weeks remain before the election. Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, is at the heart of this close race.
