Gunmen have abducted the principal of Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, four students writing the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examination and one NECO ad hoc staff member during an attack on the school in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, while candidates were sitting for their examination.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed that the attackers invaded the school and abducted six people, including the principal, four students and a NECO ad hoc staff member.
Police spokesperson, ASP Salisu Oyiza, said security agencies immediately launched a coordinated search and rescue operation involving the police and other security operatives.
She disclosed that one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and arrest the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, alongside the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser to the Governor, is expected to visit the community for an on the spot assessment of the situation.
The police said investigations and rescue operations are continuing, with further updates to be provided as developments unfold.
