FULL LIST: 57 Lawyers Elevated to Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria

Date:

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at its 169th plenary session held on Thursday in Abuja.

Chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the committee confirmed 56 advocates and one academic for elevation. Only two women made the 2025 list — Mrs. Oyinkan Badejo-Okusanya, Chair of the NBA 2024 Conference Planning Committee, and Mrs. Chinyere Ekene Moneme.

Prominent names among the new SANs include the Attorney General of Abia State and former Lagos NBA Chairman, Ikechukwu Uwanna; former Nasarawa Attorney General and current Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji; Osun State Attorney General, Oluwole Jimi-Bada; and Enugu State Attorney General, Kingsley Udeh.

The youngest appointee is 34-year-old Olufemi Oyewole, a partner at a top law firm and son of a Justice of the Court of Appeal. Professor Chima Ubanyionwu was the sole candidate elevated in the academic category.

The swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 class of SANs is scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025.

The LPPC described the SAN title as a mark of professional distinction in legal advocacy and scholarship. It also revealed that three petitions against applicants were dismissed after thorough review.

In compliance with BOSAN directives, all SAN-designates must complete a mandatory pre-swearing-in induction programme.
