PDP Schedules National Convention for November 15–16 in Ibadan

Date:

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded its meeting in Abuja, setting November 15 and 16, 2025, as the dates for its national elective convention, to be held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a communique issued at the end of Thursday’s meeting, NEC approved the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2025 Elective National Convention, during which new national officers of the party will be elected.

NEC further mandated the party’s Acting National Chairman, Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

To ensure the credibility of the convention, NEC also ratified the membership of both the National Convention Committee and the National Convention Zoning Committee.

The meeting reaffirmed the PDP’s status as a “strong, united, cohesive, stable and focused political party” and emphasized its commitment to providing an effective opposition and rescuing the country from what it described as the “catastrophic misrule” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a significant directive, NEC authorized the party’s National Working Committee to commence legal proceedings aimed at reclaiming legislative seats held by members who defected from the PDP to other political parties, citing the relevant constitutional provisions which render such defections grounds for forfeiture of seats.

NEC also expressed concern over the reported involvement of some PDP members in activities of rival parties, urging them to demonstrate loyalty and warning against dual party membership, which is prohibited by law.

Despite the challenges, the committee reassured members of ongoing efforts to address internal grievances and declared the PDP open to collaboration with other like-minded Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The 102nd NEC meeting is scheduled to hold on Monday, August 25, 2025.
