FRENCH FOOTBALLER WISSAM BEN YEDDER GIVEN SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT

Date:

French footballer Wissam Ben Yedder has been handed a two-year suspended prison sentence following his trial in France for sexually assaulting a woman.

The sentence, issued on Tuesday, comes after a trial last month in which the prosecutor had requested a jail term of two years and six months, with 18 months of the sentence suspended.

Ben Yedder, who was accused of sexual assault while intoxicated, was also ordered to pay over 5000 dollars in compensation to the victim.

The court in the southern city of Nice further mandated that the 34-year-old striker undergo treatment as part of the sentence.

Ben Yedder, who has represented France 19 times, enjoyed a prolific form in the French league last season, scoring 16 goals and providing three assists as he helped AS Monaco finish second in the league behind PSG
