President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, following his participation in an extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic Summit. The summit, held by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States, addressed the escalating conflict in the Middle East. President Tinubu’s aircraft departed from King Abdulaziz International Airport around 3:30 p.m. local time.
During the summit, President Tinubu called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, condemning the ongoing conflict and expressing concern for the humanitarian crisis. “The conflict has persisted for far too long, inflicting immeasurable suffering,” he stated, reinforcing Nigeria’s position on a two-state solution that upholds both Israeli and Palestinian rights to peace and security. Tinubu also urged leaders to create a dedicated secretariat to support the summit’s resolutions, emphasizing the need for a coordinated international effort to implement peace.
The President also met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss avenues for collaboration in oil and gas, agriculture, infrastructure, and the establishment of a Saudi-Nigeria Business Council. Tinubu highlighted the importance of a proposed $5 billion bilateral trade facility and other partnership initiatives. Details of their discussions, which took place on the summit’s sidelines, are yet to be disclosed.
