The Federal Government is strengthening efforts to improve Nigeria’s global image by leveraging the country’s tourism potential and engaging Nigerians in the diaspora.
Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said stronger collaboration between government agencies and Nigerians living abroad would help project a more positive image of the country, attract investment and stimulate economic growth.

She made the remarks in Abuja during a meeting with the Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Dr. Olayiwola Awakan, where both agencies discussed strategies to promote Nigeria’s tourism assets and deepen diaspora engagement.
Dabiri-Erewa highlighted initiatives such as the Badagry Door of Return Festival, describing it as a significant historical and cultural event that reconnects Africans in the diaspora with their ancestral roots.
On his part, Awakan said Nigeria’s vast tourism potential remains largely untapped and pledged to improve tourism infrastructure, enhance tour services and encourage greater private sector participation in the sector.
He also unveiled plans for a nationwide cultural showcase, tagged Naija Fest, as well as a proposed diaspora internship programme designed to reconnect young Nigerians abroad with their homeland.
