FCTA Workers Protest in Abuja, Issue Three-Day Ultimatum Over Unpaid Wages, Promotions

Date:

Staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) staged a protest on Monday outside the FCTA headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, demanding the immediate resolution of several outstanding issues affecting their welfare.

The demonstration, led by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), saw workers holding placards with inscriptions such as “Non-payment of AEPB enforcement squad,” “Inaccessibility of salary portal to salary desk officers,” and “Withheld salaries and allowances of workers for over 6 months.”

JUAC President, Mrs. Rifkatu Iortyer, who addressed reporters, said the union had written several letters to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, since 2023 without receiving any response.

Iortyer issued a three-day ultimatum to the FCT administration to meet their demands or face escalated actions.

The union’s demands include:

  • Payment of five-month wage awards
  • Payment of FCT teachers’ salaries and allowances
  • Commencement of overdue promotions for 2023, 2024, and 2025
  • Immediate halt to deductions for the National Housing Fund
  • Improved access to salary processing portals
  • Initiation of training and retraining programmes for staff

The workers vowed to continue the protest if their grievances are not addressed promptly.
