Nigeria has not had a representative in this event’s final since Mary Onyali accomplished the feat in Atlanta in 1996.

Onyali won a bronze medal, finishing behind France’s Marie-Jose Perec and Jamaica’s Merlene Ottey.

Born in 2002, about six years after Onyali’s achievement, Ofili will look to surpass her compatriot’s bronze medal performance.
