Favour Ofili Becomes First Nigerian in 28 Years to Reach Olympic 200m Final

Favour Ofili has made history by becoming the first Nigerian Sprinter to qualify for the women’s 200-meter final at the Olympics in 28 years.

The 21-year-old clocked a time of twenty-two point zero five seconds, finishing second in heat 1 of the women’s 200-meter semi-final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Nigeria has not had a representative in this event’s final since Mary Onyali accomplished the feat in Atlanta in 1996.

Onyali won a bronze medal, finishing behind France’s Marie-Jose Perec and Jamaica’s Merlene Ottey.

Born in 2002, about six years after Onyali’s achievement, Ofili will look to surpass her compatriot’s bronze medal performance.
