Blessing Oborududu Out of Gold Contention After Semi-Final Loss at Paris Olympics

Date:

Team Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu has been eliminated from the race for the Women’s Wrestling 68kg Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics after losing her semi-final bout to Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova.

The 2020 Olympic Games Silver Medalist suffered a clash of heads with Zhumanazarova in the first half of the match, which impacted her performance in the second half.

Oborududu, who previously secured a Silver Medal at the Tokyo Olympics, had advanced to the Semi-Finals earlier on Monday.

However, she was unable to become the first Nigerian wrestler to reach the final in consecutive Olympic Games.

With her loss in the Semi-Final, Oborududu will now compete for the bronze medal, unlike in Tokyo 2020, where she advanced to the final.
