The Ekiti State Judiciary has announced the passing of Chief Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, who died at the age of 64 after a brief illness.
The Chief Registrar, Adegoke Olanike, conveyed this news in a statement released by the Judiciary’s Public Relations Officer, Olayiwola Michael.
The statement expressed profound sadness over the loss of Adeyeye, describing him as a respected jurist who dedicated his career to the principles of fairness, equity, and justice.
“The late Chief Judge was a respected jurist who dedicated his life to upholding the principles of fairness, equity, and justice. His contributions to the development of the judiciary and Ekiti State at large are immeasurable, and his legacy will be deeply missed,” the statement read.
Justice Adeyeye was sworn in as Chief Justice on October 11, 2021, by former Governor Kayode Fayemi. Born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, Ekiti East Local Government Area, he was called to the bar in 1986.
He began his career as a state counsel in the civil service of the former Ondo State before joining the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission shortly after the state’s creation in 1996. Adeyeye was elevated to the position of judge in the Ekiti State High Court in 2002 and served at various times in the election petition tribunals.
