The Edo State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with two separate killings in the state. The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Moses Yamu, in Benin City.
According to Yamu, the first incident involved the gruesome murder of a 7-year-old boy, Evans Okojabhole, whose mutilated body was found in a bush near his home in Irrua. The boy, who had been reported missing 24 hours earlier, was discovered with his stomach ripped open, ankles severed, and fingers cut off.
“Following preliminary investigations, two suspects were arrested in connection with the crime. They have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Benin for further investigation,” Yamu stated.
The second incident involved the killing of Victor Ogedengbe, a 50-year-old vigilante commander in Erah Camp, Owan East Local Government Area. Ogedengbe was reportedly attacked and killed on his farm by suspected herdsmen on February 25.
“Three suspects, all residents of Erah community, have been arrested in connection with the crime and transferred to the SCID for further interrogation,” Yamu added.
The police also revealed that security has been heightened in Uzanu and Okpekpe communities following the recent killing of two farmers by suspected herdsmen.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents. She urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
“We appreciate the support from the general public and appeal for continued cooperation. If you see something, say something,” the commissioner was quoted as saying.
