Edo Governor Freezes State Accounts, Reverts Ministry of Roads to Works

Date:

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed the freezing of all state-owned bank accounts with immediate effect.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the governor ordered commercial banks and all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to comply with the directive or face severe penalties.

The statement emphasized that no funds should be withdrawn from the state’s accounts until further notice, as the governor seeks to conduct investigations and reconciliations.

The governor also announced the reversion of the Ministry of Roads and Bridges to its former title, the Ministry of Works, citing dissatisfaction with the previous administration’s performance in infrastructure development.

“Appropriate actions will follow the ongoing assessments to ensure the best interests of Edo State,” the statement concluded.
