Chad has announced plans to introduce visa-free entry for citizens of all African countries beginning January 1, 2027.

President Mahamat Idriss Déby says the decision is part of efforts to strengthen African unity and promote greater freedom of movement across the continent.

According to the Chadian president, removing visa restrictions will make it easier for people and goods to move across African countries and support deeper regional integration.

The decision will place Chad among a growing number of African countries that have introduced visa-free or visa-exemption policies for African travellers.

Countries including Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo have introduced similar arrangements aimed at reducing travel restrictions for Africans.

Chad says the policy is expected to encourage easier travel to the Central African country and contribute to broader efforts towards greater economic and regional integration across the continent.
