Brazilian football legend Ronaldo has announced his candidacy for the presidency of the country’s football association, aiming to restore the national team’s prestige.
The 48-year-old, who earned 98 caps for Brazil, will run to replace current Confederation of Brazilian Football president Ednaldo Rodrigues.
Brazil, the record five-time World Cup champions, last lifted the trophy in 2002 and have not advanced beyond the quarter-finals since then.
Rodrigues’ term is set to end in March 2026, and presidential elections must be held within the 12 months leading up to that date.
Since Ronaldo’s international retirement in 2011, Brazil have won the Copa América once and were eliminated from the 2022 World Cup by Croatia in the quarter-finals.
