APC Schedules NEC Meeting for July 24 to Decide Ganduje’s Replacement

Date:

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will convene on July 24, 2025, to determine the leadership status of the party following the resignation of its National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Deputy National Secretary of the party, Festus Fuanter, confirmed the meeting date during a briefing after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held on Monday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

Ganduje resigned his position as APC chairman last Friday, citing health reasons. In accordance with the party’s constitution, Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, was endorsed by the NWC to serve in an acting capacity.

“As you are all aware, the National Executive Committee is the apex body of the party. Whatever we do now, including the endorsement of the national chairman, must also receive the blessings of the NEC,” Fuanter said.

He added that the NEC could decide whether Dalori should continue as acting chairman until the national convention or if a new substantive chairman should be appointed.

The NWC also deliberated on preparations for upcoming by-elections and internal congresses at various levels of the party structure.

Speaking at the NWC meeting, Dalori acknowledged the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, promising to lead with transparency, inclusiveness, and unity.

“My appointment to this role is not a personal victory. It is a responsibility I embrace with full awareness of the challenges ahead and the expectations of millions of our members and supporters across the nation,” he stated.

Dalori emphasised the importance of reconnecting with the grassroots and realigning the party towards the 2027 general elections, while also pledging unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a campaign slogan; it is a living roadmap addressing fundamental challenges in our economy, security, and national cohesion,” Dalori added.

National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, formally presented Ganduje’s resignation letter to the NWC, which was unanimously accepted. He cited Article 14 of the party’s constitution as the basis for Dalori’s elevation to acting chairman.

The July 24 NEC meeting is expected to be decisive in shaping the party’s leadership and organisational direction as it prepares for upcoming electoral and internal processes.
