Governor Umo Eno made the announcement during the 2025 State Convention of Traditional Birth Attendants, held at the Ibom Hall Ground in Uyo. He issued a directive to the State Ministry of Health to undertake the training and certification of TBAs, transforming them into certified community healthcare workers.
Governor Eno acknowledged the critical role TBAs play in the state’s social fabric, particularly in caring for pregnant mothers in rural and underserved areas. He emphasized that, upon completing the training, TBAs would be integrated into the state’s primary healthcare system, further enhancing their contributions to healthcare delivery.
The Governor expressed optimism that the training would elevate the profile of TBAs, leveraging their wealth of experience while aligning their practices with current medical advancements and standards. In his welcome remarks, Comrade Otobong George, President of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Birth Attendants, thanked Governor Eno for his support and commitment to improving their profession.
