The Akwa Ibom State Government has unveiled plans to establish a petroleum depot within the state, with support from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Governor Pastor Umo Eno made this known during the inauguration of the Board of Trustees for the Security Trust Fund and the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee at the Government House in Uyo. He highlighted that this initiative is set to reduce petroleum and transportation costs in the state.
In response to the nationwide fuel price hike, which has significantly impacted citizens, the state government has prioritized action. A task force has been set up to address the fuel situation within Akwa Ibom. Pastor Umo Eno emphasized that the newly formed boards will operate independently while working in collaboration with the state government to ensure uniformity in fuel pricing and to prevent exploitation by petroleum marketers.
The governor also praised the state’s service commanders for their commitment to maintaining peace and security, particularly in addressing challenges in the waterways.
Mr. Godwin Ekpo, Chairman of the Security Trust Fund Board of Trustees, and Barrister Paul Usoro, Chairman of the Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee, assured the governor of their dedication to tackling challenges and pledged to serve with diligence in ensuring peace and security within the state. Both emphasized the role of peace in fostering economic growth.
