The Federal Capital Territory Council of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, has directed its members to report to work, distancing itself from the indefinite strike declared by the FCT Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
The TUC says the strike directive was issued without consultation with its council or affiliated unions.
The NLC had directed public and private sector workers in the FCT to begin an indefinite strike over a dispute between the FCT Administration and the Nigeria Union of Teachers.
However, the TUC says it neither participated in the meeting that produced the directive nor endorsed the decision to embark on industrial action.
It has therefore directed all its affiliate unions and members in the FCT to continue their normal duties and report to work as usual.

The TUC also warned that its members should not be intimidated or forced to participate in an industrial action that it has not sanctioned, urging them to report any such incidents to its FCT Secretariat.
Affiliate leaders were also asked to disregard instructions to establish strike enforcement committees unless such directives come from the TUC FCT leadership.
The union expressed concern over the impact of the dispute on teachers, other workers and schoolchildren, calling for dialogue and established industrial relations procedures to resolve the matter.
