Spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo, has rejected Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed’s claim that Atiku Abubakar and other major opponents of President Bola Tinubu lack the capacity to improve Nigeria.
Okonkwo says Baba-Ahmed reached the wrong conclusion in his assessment, arguing that Atiku’s record in government demonstrates his ability to provide effective leadership.
He pointed to Atiku’s tenure as Vice President between 1999 and 2007, citing his role in economic management and the recruitment of technocrats into government as evidence of his capacity.
Okonkwo also defended Atiku’s relevance ahead of the 2027 presidential election, arguing that his experience in government and economic management strengthens his credentials.
On fuel subsidy, Okonkwo says Atiku plans to shift emphasis from subsidising consumption to supporting domestic production, arguing that reducing production costs could make petroleum products cheaper and create jobs.
He also dismissed suggestions that Atiku is opposed to zoning, maintaining that the former Vice President supported the principle and the transfer of presidential power to the South in 1999.
