The FCT Police Command has rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents in Kurudu and Gwagwalada areas of the Federal Capital Territory.
In Kurudu, a resident identified as Mr. Innocent alerted the police after hearing the cry of a baby along Obodo Street and discovering a baby boy wrapped in cloth and abandoned in a carton box.
Police officers and personnel of the Juveniles and Women Care Department rescued the baby and took him to a hospital for medical assessment. The Command says he is in stable condition and has been handed over to the Social Welfare Department for further care.
In a separate incident in Gwagwalada, a resident identified as Mr. Ibrahim discovered a baby girl outside his gate after hearing her cry. He and other residents rescued the child and reported the incident to the police.
The baby girl was taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for medical examination and is receiving care ahead of her handover to the Social Welfare Department.
The FCT Police Command says investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding both cases.
It has also appealed to anyone with information that could help identify the mothers or family members of the babies to contact the nearest police station or the Command.
