Ibrahim Musa Gusau has confirmed his resignation as President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
Gusau announced his decision at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, amid mounting pressure over Nigeria’s recent disappointing performances in major international football competitions.
His resignation follows weeks of criticism of the NFF leadership, with stakeholders raising concerns over the management of the national teams and the broader direction of Nigerian football.
Gusau, who was elected NFF President in 2022, used the briefing to highlight some of the achievements recorded during his four-year tenure.
Minutes after his announcement, the NFF also confirmed on its X account that General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi had resigned from his position.
The resignations are understood to have followed pressure from the National Sports Commission and the Presidency amid growing concerns over the state of Nigerian football.
The development marks a major shake-up in the country’s football governing body, coming just weeks before the NFF elective congress initially scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
