Flavio Cobolli has fought back from a set down to reach the Cincinnati Masters semi-finals, defeating American Tommy Paul 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Italian recovered after losing the opening set and produced an unusual mid-match boost when he asked for sweets to be brought onto the court.
Cobolli returned from the brief pause with renewed energy, taking the second set before completing the comeback in the deciding set.
Paul had defeated top seed Alexander Zverev in the previous round but was unable to maintain that momentum against the Italian.
Cobolli will face Frenchman Arthur Fils for a place in the final.
Fils secured his semi-final spot with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Argentina’s Thiago Tirante in just 64 minutes, the shortest men’s match of the tournament so far.
